Spotlight on... our collaboration with the HMRC Inland Border Facility
Sodexo’s work with HMRC Inland Border
Facility which spans two sites: Ashford in Kent
and Ynys Mon (Anglesey) in Wales.
To create meaningful social impact in these
distinct communities, we worked in close
partnership with Sodexo by leveraging our
network and expertise to collaboratively address
food insecurity and social isolation.
Creating local impact in Ashford
Ashford is a community facing signi昀椀cant food
insecurity and social isolation, particularly among
families a昀昀ected by economic hardship and
limited access to support services.
In partnership with Social Enterprise Kent, we
helped open a social supermarket, a 昀椀rst for
the Foundation, which has since become a vital
resource for the local community.
Over the course of the grant period, the site
will support 28,000 families, providing access
to a昀昀ordable food and essential wraparound
services. These include budgeting advice, job
coaching, and digital skills training—empowering
individuals to move beyond crisis and build longterm resilience.
The Mayor of Ashford personally visited the site,
praising its innovative and impactful approach.

What sets social supermarkets apart from
traditional food banks is their choice-based
model, allowing individuals to purchase food
at reduced prices while preserving dignity
and autonomy. They also provide pathways
to long-term resilience, not just emergency
relief.
Crucially, this programme was brought to
life through collaborative volunteering:
colleagues from Sodexo and the Inland
Border Facility worked side-by-side to set
up the shop, man the tills, and support
operations since its launch - demonstrating
the power of corporate engagement in
driving real community change.
This intervention re昀氀ects Stop Hunger’s values
of authenticity, pragmatism, and collaboration,
delivering measurable outcomes for those who
need it most.
Thanks to the support of the Stop Hunger Foundation, SE
Kitchen in Ashford can now o昀昀er a昀昀ordable food and reduce
food waste, while also providing wrap-around support
services that address the root causes of food poverty.”
